Isaiah 53

one of my favorite passages prophecying about the death of Christ. The language and the imagery are incomparable, and it just strikes me to the heart every time I read it.
"He has no form or comeliness, And when we see Him there is no beauty that we should desire Him...The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed...And He bore the sin of many, And made intercession for the transgressors." (vv2,5,12)
"And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him" (v3)
I just feel like crying everytime I read these passages - I ignore Him, hide my face from Him, yet I have my peace because He took on my "chastisement" (I love that word). I am healed by His pain.
There are so many statements in the Bible that I simply forget to claim - I am loved because God says that I am, I am healed because He suffered for me. Our feelings are so fickle and it's easy to be sidetracked by them and think that we are not loved b/c we don't feel loved, instead of trusting in God's word that says that we are. I am God's child b/c He says I am. I am a new person, not b/c I feel like it but b/c the Bible states it.
that's maybe a bit off topic - just the thoughts that were striking me as I was reading.

heart rending. how great is the Father's love for us... and that of our Savior. How shallow our own love and clarity of devotion and purpose. Your words were all I needed this morning as meditational thoughts. truly, here, in this passage, smack dab in the centre of the Bible, we find the heart of the gospel. His love and mediation for us.
