Luke 18

"When the Son of Man comes again, will He find those on earth who believe in Him." This verse is gut wrenching. You see people abandoning church, then abandoning the Word (which they start to call millenia old fairy tales), abandonin the faith and abandoning hope. They become negative, embittered and caustic. And why? Not because of Jesus, but because of those who represent Him. Much like the Pharisees we so often miss the forest for pointing out trees. Have mercy, Lord.

I love the story of the rich young ruler. For so many years growing up I just totally didn't get it. I thought it was promoting legalism. That we need to be perfect. Which it is, but not in the way a person might think. We need to be perfect, it's IMPOSSIBLE for us to be perfect, enter God. "God can do things that are not possible for people to do." v27 Only God can save us. What a God.

"What do you want me to do for you (blind man)." "Lord, I want to see." "Then see."

Do I live in expectation of the shackles that Jesus is ready and willing to free me from? Do I look at my struggles and weaknesses and call out, "Lord Jesus!" and then tell Him I want Him to set me free? No. Most of the time I don't. I am missing out on so much. I sense He is right here, just waiting for me to call His name and express my frustration. But I go along shoveling my own path by physical force, straining with all my energy to reach Him when all He is waiting for me to do is reach out my hand and let Him pull me out.

"Will He really find faith on the earth?" - yep, gut wrenching.

All these parables are favorites - the persistent widow, the Pharisee and the tax collector, the rich young ruler...I love the point of that last one "the things which are impossible with men are possible with God"

I stopped at vs.1.... couldn't get any farther... I love that my God knows me so well (each of us, actually) that before we were born, he wrote this for us -for the days that we feel like giving up. With those 'down' days in mind, He gave us the parable of the persistent widow... to encourage us to keep our relationship with Him close and full of hope. Oh how He loves you and me, hey?
