Proverbs 13

"Spend time with the wise and you will become wise, but the friends of fools will suffer." v20

It's amazing how we are subtly influenced by the attitude of the people we spend time with. I find this very true in my life. Some people really leave the scent of Jesus in their wake, and it makes one feel steeped in positive and encouraging graces. I know that this is a result of Christ in them, and it makes me want more and more of Christ in me.

This chapter also made me think how wisdom and humility are almost continuously paired with one another. I think the number one thing I want to avoid in my life is pride. It is such an ugly and crippling malignancy completely contrary to the character of Christ.

"The sluggard craves and gets nothing, but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied. vs.4"

I needed this today. Good for the heart.

"People who despise advice are asking for trouble" vs 13

Life application Bible says - "God created us, knows us, and loves us. It only makes sense, then, to listen to His instructions and do what He says. The Bible is His unfailing word to us. It is like an owner's manual for a car. If you obey God's instructions, you will "run right" and find His kind of power to live. If you ignore them, you will have breakdowns, accidents and failures.

This is not knew to me. I need to read His word! Thanks, Nichole for this site. I look forward to seeing what I'll read everyday (or almost everyday).

A friend (you know who she is!) suggested this site in order to get into my Bible more, so I've been reading for a few days now. It's great to have a reading plan set up for me, so I plan to continue. Thanks!

I was struck with v. 3 because yesterday I read in "Our Daily Bread" about just that-Eph.4:29. How often we carelessly speak words that hurt others - we need to "guard our lips". I think the Lord is trying to impress this on me, since I read it twice in one week.

Thanks again for this site, Nichole.

Ladies, I'm so glad you are here, and that we can be blessed by His Word and the opportunity to fellowship over it. I apologise for not being here the past few days, I have been in the city for doctor and specialist checkups and also dealing with a houseful of company when I am home. Could really use prayer for my pregnancy. Turns out I have a very low lying placenta (just 1.8 cm above my cervix) that is causing the problems. If it doesn't move out of there in the next three weeks (get behind the baby and higher) then I am in pretty big trouble. Right now I have to take things super easy and bed rest and a scheduled c-section may well be in my future. Praying that won't be so. Thanks for your prayers.
