2 Chronicles 9

My devotions go into how things were going so GREAT for Solomon on an external level, but what about the "other half", the most important half. His spiritual wholeness and well being. From other chapters, and especially from Ecclesiastes we know that the more focused on externals that Solomon was, the less care and attention he gave to his spiritual growth and the less fulfilled and healthy he was as a person. What does it profit a man to gain the whole world but forfeit his soul?

I want to be the kind of person whose first desire is spiritual growth and a closer more intimate relationship with Christ and His children. If I am going to focus on something to be passionate about in life it is going to be that. More of Him, less of me. It's a daily grind, disciplining oneself to put on one's climbing gear and start up that mountain where the footholds are elusive and the way is steep, but it's exhilarating when you push past "the wall" and find yourself in the adrenaline rush of climbing with God.

first of all, I was so in awe of the prosperity. Can you IMAGINE!!! Silver was considered of no value, because there was so much more valuable stuff around. wow.

I kept thinking too, the whole time I was reading, why, in all his wisdom, was he not able to avoid this pitfall??
