Exodus 8

my devotional notes from this reading were quite sobering. It compared Pharaoh's stubborness with the stubborness of believers who want to continue in sin.

"...could just as easily be applied to a Christian who deliberately chooses to disobey his Lord. And instead of seeing the error of his way, he stays in a state of carnality, which grieves the Spirit of God living within him. Carnality occurs when a believer deliberately operates in the strength of his or her own will.. stubbornly refusing to acknowledge wrong and choosing to walk contrary to the teaching of Scripture. The promptings of God's Spirit are ignored as disobedience becomes a lifestyle."

It's so true, we can be so stubborn. It grieves me even more when I see people justifying these choices of the will, saying "God couldn't possibly expect me to..... he knows, I just can't!" So sad. To not be submitted to God, to try to convince ourselves that our will must be God's will because the alternative is too difficult to face and to not understand that He wants to be our strength and that the power to obey comes through His Spirit in us.
