MIA

I apologise for being missing in action for the past few weeks.  I have had a few personal exchanges with people, discussing what is happening with me on this "journey of walking in pastures green" but thought I should post an update here, for any who frequent this spot, regularly or not so regularly, so that I can be accountable to my "co-journeyers".

A series of events has led me to start a Beth Moore bible study on Freedom in Christ with a group of ladies from church.  Since then I have also hooked up with 3 other ladies/gals as well that I will be walking through this study with.  So the heart of my devotional time is spent on this study at this time.

I have also been feeling the need for "something more".  A moving to the next level  in my study of God's word.  Not just scratching the surface but really digging in to the context and applications of any given book, chapter or verse.  I explored John Pipes Arcing method of study, but it didn't click with me.  I am currently reading Kay Arthur's book "How to Study the Bible".  In the intro to her book she says;

"If you long to know God, if you yearn for a deep and abiding relationship with Jesus Christ, if you want to live the Christian life faithfully and know what God requires of you, you must do more than merely read the Bible and study what someone else has said about it.  You must interact with God's Word personally, absorbing its message and letting God engrave His truth on your heart and mind and life.  That is the very heart of inductive study: seeing truth for yourself, discerning what it means, and applying that truth to your life."

This has always been my motive when reading the scriptures, but the inductive approach is a METHOD for deeper application.  It is based on three tiers of focus; observation: what does the passage SAY, interpretation: what does the passage MEAN and application: what truths can I put into practice and what changes can I make in MY life."

So considering the pace of life for me right now, I am going to be "pausing" with the Prairie Passages schedule to devote myself to the Beth Moore study over the summer, and also to learning the Kay Arthur inductive approach to study.  If this is something you would be interested in, let me know, and maybe in the fall I can redirect the course of this blog to introduce the inductive approach and we can pick a small book or maybe a series of Psalms to work through together.

Happy May Long and may you be strengthened by grace as you walk with Him!
