I love this chapter. Chris, I wonder if this will help you put chapter 61 into context as well. We need to read these passages with clarity of how this is GOD dealing with ISRAEL but that God has given the same word pictures to describe the CHURCH'S relationship with His son Jesus. Spectacular.

"Because I (God) love Jerusalem, I will continue to speak for her; for Jerusalem's sake I will not stop speaking until her goodness shines like a bright light, until her salvation burns bright like a flame." v 1 And Jesus is our advocate, pleading our case (of salvation) to the Father. 1 John 2:1

"Then you (Jerusalem) will have a new name, which th eLord h imself will give you." v2 Jesus will give us a new name, Rev 2:17

And Israel continuously referred to in Isaiah with the imagery of a bride, but always the bride of GOD, while the church is figured as the bride of the Messiah.

I especially love "Tell the people of Jerusalem, 'Look, your Savior is coming. He is bringing your reward to you; He is bringing His payment with Him. His people will be called the Holy People, the Saved People of the Lord, and Jerusalem will be called the City God Wants, the City God Has Not Rejected."

Oh Jerusalem, Jerusalem. Awake. Arise. For Your Light is Come.

this is interesting. BGuy & I watched "Kingdom of Heaven" the other night, and I was SO struck by what a tragic history Jerusalem has had - passing from "christian" to muslim over and over, with the end result being what we have today - total unrest. neither side satisfied and still pursuing what is "rightfully" theirs.

"Surely your salvation is coming;...And you shall be called Sought Out, A City Not Forsaken"
Beautiful. I wonder if the Jewish Palestinians today read that and cling to it?
