I'm glad for what you wrote in your sidebar about being legalistic. I had a tough weekend. Will try to catch up with your Bible reading plan through out this week. Thank you so much for doing this. I'll try to come back and comment on this weekend's verses. ((((((HUGS)))

Hey, I just read the John 11 passage this morning, and I stopped right there. I may play catch up or I may just end up picking up where we are, but one thing for sure, don't let the pressure of not having read yesterday keep you from reading today. Don't sweat it!

Thanks for your encouragement. I do LOVE reading the Bible, and need to find a systematic way of doing it. I like your method. However some life situations over the weekend took over...and well, you know. I do read a little to the family at breakfast, and at bedtime, but for myself, I need to find a good system. Psalms 37 really helped last week. Fighting some spiritual battles...thanks

"Aaron must burn sweet-smelling incense on the altar every morning when he comes to take care of the oil lamps. He must burn incense again in the evening when he lights the lamps, so incense will burn before the Lord every day from now on." v7

Elsewhere this "sweet-smelling" incense is compared to prayer. I love to think of this symbolizing the prayers of the Lord's people always rising to the Lord like the scent of incense.

The ritual washing of the priests reminded me of how we are now ritually washed by the Word, and how important it is to be IN the Word that our lives can be CLEANSED by the Word. It really is a cleansing agent. Remarkable. The more I am out of the word, or not really digesting it, the more crap I can put up with in my life. The more I am in the Word and really receiving it's message (many who listened to Jesus were warned to really "listen up") the more sensitive I am to the areas of my life that need to be purified.

I love how you can get all that from this passage :) I keep reading "wood...overlay with gold...so high....so wide...so many shekels...." dry dry dry. Maybe I'm just too tired, but I find it tough to pull something heart-changing out of these passages. Love that you can!

I do love, however, the way the Lord tells him that the anointing oil and incense are holy and are not to be used for anything else...it's special, and it's set apart.
I don't think that we as a culture have anything like this that would be special and set apart - just ourselves. I think that now that we are free from the law, WE are to be holy and set apart, not unlike these items?

LOL! See, *you* did it too. I know what you are saying. The chapter started out looking like a *real* dry one to me too. I just tell myself that everything has to be there for a reason, and I look for those multi-faceted jewels that are alluded to in Proverbs 2:4 "Listen carefully to wisdom; set your mind on understanding. Cry out for wisdom and beg for understanding. Search for it like silver and hunt for it like hidden treasure."

I have a new book on my list to read. It's "The Bible Jesus Read." by Philip Yancey. Apparently it is supposed to REALLY bring home how the OT points to the new and the new reveals the old in a phenomenal way. I'm looking forward to it!
