Jeremiah 20

I love this:

"But if I say, "I will not remember Him Or speak anymore in His name," Then in my heart it becomes like a burning fire Shut up in my bones;" v.9

"But the Lord is with me like a dread champion..." v.11

I love the images there. How Jeremiah might have wanted to stop, but was powerless to do so because of the burning of the Lord in him, and how he describes the Lord, the "dread champion".

"Lord All Powerful, you test good people; you look deeply into the heart and mind of a person." v12

Lately my attention has been on the verse "may the words of my mouth, the meditations of my heart be pleasing in your sight Oh Lord." What an all consuming and rewarding task to take every thought and word and action captive and analyze them to see whether they would be found pleasing to God! I can tell you that quite a few "trivial" things (and I use that term tongue in cheek) that I used to let slide with a roll of my eyes are things that I am being very careful to submit to now in the interests of living a life above reproach that would please the Lord. What an amazing discipline. It shows me in so many ways how I have NOT been living as a follower of Christ in my every action, but so often just in lip service. I am humbled and excited to start maturing in this area of practical discipleship.
