Psalm 55

"I wish I had wings like a dove, then I would fly away and rest. I would wander far away and stay in the desert, I would hurry to my place of escape, far away from the wind and storm." v6-8

Just like us to want to escape the challenges in life. As I read this at first I thought that God wants us to stay and learn to be strong. To hone our spiritual warfare skills and toughen up into maturity. But then I read this a little farther down;

"But I will call to God for help, and the Lord will save me. Morning, noon and night I am troubled and upset, but He will listen to me. Many are against me, but He keeps me safe in battle." v16-18

and I realized that what I was thinking was not quite right. God doesn't just want us to "toughen up" and mature. He wants us to learn to throw ourselves completely on Him. He wants us to turn to Him for help, to pour our hearts out to Him and come running to Him to be our shield when life throws stones our way rather than running away.
