Jeremiah 36

couple things stood out to me here.

First of all the people were fasting and keeping holy days, ,but their lives were despicable in God's eyes. It's not our outward conformity that brings us into right relationship with God, but our inner submission and heart, again, I am reminded of how David was called a man after God's own heart, not because he conformed to every letter of the law and was a perfect example of obedience, but because he passionately desired to be obedient and to be restored to intimacy with God in the wake of His failures.

then the horror and pride of Jehoiakim! The nerve! Like burning the scroll would make the message be less true, or disappear? What the Lord decrees will come to pass, and pretending He hasn't said something, or that consequences won't happen is RETARDED. We better take heed, submit and only then will He restore us. Otherwise, game's up and we lose.

It is amazing how often the message of God desiring our hearts comes through again and again. So many people see the old testament as dedicated to law and the old way but the new way and love relationship with God through Christ is very present.
