"Do not fool yourselves. Don't say; "The Babylonian army will surely leave us alone." They will not! Even if you defeated all fo teh Babylonian army that is attackingyou adn there were only a few injured men left in their tents, they would come from their tents and burn down Jerusalem." v9-10

This passage made me think about spiritual warfare. About the Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis. That whole "battle" going on that we don't see, the battle to disarm us and hypnotize us to the truth, just the fact that we "feel" untouchable (as the people did in this chapter), is a danger in itself. It's true we need to put our trust in God, God is our refuge, but that doesn't mean we should lull ourselves into believing there is no battle going on.

That same set of verses that you commented on really hit me too. It made it clear that God doesn't even need the strength of the Babylonian Army to carry out his will for Judah. It was a very powerful declaration of our inability to bring about our own victory even when we are at our most strong and physically capable. Shivers up my back!
