lots of tragedy in here. I was surprised that the Lord used Israel to invade Judah - that would be family killing family. How sad. Especially since the problem lay with the king and his leadership.

"The Lord, the God of your ancestors, handed Judah over to you, because He was angry with those people. But God has seen the cruel way you killed them. Now you plan to make the people of Judah and Jerusalem your slaves, but you also have sinned against the Lord your God... the Lord is very angry with you." v9-11

This kind of ties in with what I was thinking yesterday. God uses even our sin nature to his advantage, but that doesn't mean He doesn't hold us accountable for it. He used the Israel to punish Judah, but he held Israel accountable for their cruelties.

Tragedy
a dramatic composition, often in verse, dealing with a serious or somber theme, typically that of a great person destined through a flaw of character or conflict with some overpowering force, as fate or society, to downfall or destruction.
a lamentable, dreadful, or fatal event or affair; calamity; disaster: the tragedy of war.

I am not saying Ahaz was great... he was obviously the opposite of that very word but he was given the place of KING and could have been great if he had been for GOD... Wow he sure worked hard at being completely offensive to the Lord!

I think I am a little to raw for this chapter right now... the part about kinsmen fighting one another and then clothing and anointing the captives made me weepy... so intensely painful when family attacks family... It was like a metaphor to what can be seen in the CHURCH and in my own blood family...
