Jeremiah 39

Absolute goosebumps at the end of this chapter. Like a possible prophetic connection never recognized (by me) before chills.

One of the things that I love the most about the Bible, is the way that things in the Old Testament are shadowboxes to the future and the truth and promises that God reveals in the new. In New Testament prophecy, if you are very familiar with the Old Testament you will see that God uses symbols and wording from past events to allude to times in the past that will shed further light on how things will play out in the future. Revelation draws very heavily from Daniel and Ezekiel and points back to prophecies that took place regarding the times of those prophets, and those days in Israel, and how history is going to be repeated (largely) in the last days.

God's message to Ebed Melech at the end of this chapter just brought a portion of Revelation to mind so strongly that it almost took my breath away.

God says, through Jeremiah, "I will make my words about Jerusalem come true through disaster, not thorugh good times. You will see everything come true with your own eyes. But I will save you on that day, Ebed Melech, says the Lord. You will not be handed over to the people you fear. I will surely save you, Ebed Melech. You will not die from a sword, but you will escape and live. This will happen because you have trusted in me, says the Lord." v16-17

Now let's look at the letter to the Church of Philadelphia in Revelation Chap 3;

"You have obeyed my teaching about not giving up your faith. So I will keep you from the time of trouble that will come to the whole world to test those who live on earth." v10

Very insightful Prairie Chick:) I love the book of Zechariah for the same reason. I see so much connection to Revelations and the future there.

Your comment about history repeating itself at the end got me interested and I will have to think about that some more.

As I read this chapter I was struck by how long they spent trying to fighting off the inevitable with their own strength and only God could help them...

They fought flesh against flesh and only surrender would have been there salvation... surrender to God's will. Just reminds me to live a life of Love, devoted to God and trust him to fight my battles.
