Jeremiah 43

Johanan and his band had come to Jeremiah for God's approval of their plan, not for God's direction. This is a recurring problem for some of us - seeking God's approval of our desires rather than asking him for guidance. We need to make our plans based on God's guidance - this is really striking home!

I totally agree Denise. This hits right to the heart of what we have been learning about lately. Don't assume God is blessing your plan. If it has nothing to do with what is best for you (his ultimate will) then the answer will be no no matter what we try to do to gain his favor or how hard we pray. When we ask for an answer he of course can say no.

Don't you totally have this feeling in your stumach of 'uh oh' when they get made at Jeremiah's message and go ahead with their plan??

so blessed by your fellowship here this morning, ladies. very moving. What struck me from this passage was that the people deceived themselves, convinced themselves that this was not *really* the message of the Lord. Because of course, it would be pure stupidity to go against the message of the Lord, but no, they convinced themselves "You are lying! The Lord our God did not send you to say....."

We are so sneaky. We want to do our own thing, and we want to convince ourselves that of course we are right rather than to desire God's will above all even when it doesn't line up with our own personal desires. Very gritty.

We've come right back to chapter 6... God tells the people of Jerusalem how to do his will, and once again, they've gone their own way. vs.16-"Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls, But you said, 'We will not walk in it.'

Man, how I want to long after those ancient paths, the good way... to hear a voice behind me saying, "This is the way; walk in it." I've got to take more time to listen, to be still, (to shut up- in essence). That's a tough one for me.
