Obviously as a mother the part about the child moves me. It is strangly beautiful to know the Lord saw something beautiful in him and so spared him what was going to happen to all of the rest of the house of Jeroboam...

Also found it incredible how both kings battled one another all their days and obviously must have been for selfish gain reasons because neither served God and both lead their people into grave sins...

It struck me that the previous chapter, where the prophet was lead to his demise by an older spiritual man, was perhaps a warning (even in his death) to the people that when the kings and spiritual leaders are going against Gods word to not follow them even though they be in a place of authority.

The tale of Abijah really stops one in their tracks doesn't it? "He is the only one of Jeroboam's family who will be buried, because he is the only one in the king's family who pleased the Lord..." v13

So he pleased the Lord, and yet he was the one wore down by illness and brought to the grave. Sheds a whole new light on the people who believe that God's desire is for healing, all the time. And that God will spare the righteous from suffering.
