"From that day on, half my people worked on the wall. the other half was ready with spears, shilds, bows and armor. the officers stood in back of the people of Judah who were building the wall. those who carried materials did their work wiht one hand and carried a weapon with the other. Each builder wore his sword at his side as he worked." v16-18

To me this passage seems like such a great visual of spiritual warfare. The half of the people standing guard with thier weapons so that the "others" could work without fear of attack. And also the men working with armor in hand reminds me that we are always under attack, we should never let down our guard, the enemy prowls like a lion, seeking whom he may devour. I want to keep my sword sharp, and my eyes peeled and my ears attentive. "Not by might, not by power, but by my Spirit says the Lord". It's a spiritual battle, every day, whether we realize it or not.

I do not think that I would have seen that but after reading your comment it is so obvious. It makes this passage much more relevant to this pilgrim who has never done physical battle.

Have I mentioned that I really like Nehemiah? (Every Wednesday I think!) He turns to the Lord, everybody is organized, given a job, he is inspiational. ("Remember the Lord who is great and awesone and fight for for you brothers and sons and daughters, your wives and you home.") I think I have found a new favorite to add to my Bible hero list. =)
