Zechariah 1

I think we are on Zechariah...just finished Haggai, correct?
I will comment since I read it. Zechariah is post-exilic and he is a priest as well as a prophet. It is good balance to read Zechariah after Ezekiel--he offers prophecy of restoration (tho' does not forget the past) after the exposure of sin and prediction of devastation on Ezekiel. Both were important messages but the contrast is soothing.

v16:"Therefore, this is what the Lord says: 'I will return to Jerusalem with mercy, and there my house will be rebuilt. And the measuring line will be stretched out over Jerusalem,' delares the Lord Almighty. "

The Lord was so angry, jealous for his people...those words seem insufficient...that he sent them judgement in the form of destruction by their enemies. Now he offers mercy...sigh. I think that I tend to cling to any verse that talks about mercy as it is what I have so desperately needed throughout my life.

"As you read Zechariah, take hope in knowing that God controls the future, YOUR future, and that the King is coming. Then get a good night's sleep." Max Lucado

"I have a strong love for Jerusalem." v14 What love is this? Oh what sacrifice. The Son of God given for me. His life He gave and my death He died, that I might live. That I might live.

When I think on the love of God I am just stunned. A love that encompasses and covers our unworthiness and draws us unto Himself by His sheer grace and mercy. And yet, up there in verse 2 we read,

"Return to me, and I will return to you."

God doesn't force Himself on us. He is there, like the prodigal Father, watching, waiting, desiring to embrace us and lavish us with His grace, but we must turn homeward.
