Although I find these chapters on the feasts rather dry to sift through, they remind me of the rich culture and traditions that pointed to the Redeemer. My favorite indepth study of all time was on the feasts and how each feast represented a future fulfillment in the coming of Christ, and some still to be fulfilled in His second coming. Again, goosebumps. It makes me treasure our own family culture and I love to make celebrations and traditions rich with symbolism that point to Jesus and what He has done and has promised to do.

I too find these chapters on the feasts rather dry but my Bible indicates that these holidays were a time to refresh the body and mind and renew one's commitment to God. It suggests that if we feel tired or far from God, to try and take a "spiritual holiday" where we separate ourselves from daily routine (hard for you with children to do) and concentrate on renewing our commitment to God. I find that a walk out in nature is a good place to do this and it doesn't need to take the whole day. It is also beautiful out there now and reminds me of the Creator of all things.

"The festival of Trumpets demonstrated three important principles that we should follow in our worship today: (1) The people gathered together to celebrate and worship. There is an extra benefit to be gained from worshiping with other believers. (2) The normal daily routine was suspended, and no hard work was done. It takes time to worship, and setting aside the time allows us to adjust our attitudes before and reflect afterward. (3) The people gave God something of value by sacrificing animals as burnt offereings to him. We show our committment to God when we give something of value to him. God desires wholehearted worship. Our gift of money presented generously to God's work also demonstrates our thanks to him. The best gift, of course, is ourselves."

I just love it when what at first glance seems to hold little for us, turns into such a wealth of truth and encouragement. I love what you both shared regarding this passage! Nise, it reminds me of what we were talking about this one weekend about making corporate worship (church) a priority.
