this chapter is fascinating to me. It shows the heavy responsibility of headship on the part of the father/husband.

My Life application Bible talks about vows and how important when we make vows that they be fulfilled. Breaking a vow meant a broken trust and a broken relationship. A broken promise today is just as harmful as it was in Moses' day. I think we're often forgetting that these days.
It also takes a bit of the pressure off of the husband/father and uses the word "parents". I'm not sure whether that is correct or not as the translations I've read (including the KJV)uses the word "father". No where does it indicate that this means "parents".

Interesting. My impression is that your current translation is trying to be politically correct but in doing so I think it is monkeying around with the biblical stance on male spiritual headship. But that's a very controversial kettle of fish in and of itself :)
