Complacency - such a danger (vv10-12)

"Hear, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord is One!" (v4)
How appropriate for the Christmas season.

lots of meaningful repetition here- Fear the Lord/ that it may go well
Obey his commands/ that you may live long.

My story-mouth loves the repetition of telling future generations of the goodness of God and the mighty works of His awesome hand.

I love the cautious warning... when you get to a land of affluence, make sure to give glory where glory is due, not to the places, people or gods you find in the new land. This is where tagging your doorframes, gates, foreheads and hands with the symbols of God's commandments is such a visible reminder. Is scripture in my home and my mouth? Are we immersed enough in it, that we recognize God's hand everywhere we go? Am I giving glory where glory is due? May my heart be wholly Yours, Lord.

So glad you posted the passage this morning B-girl.

Two things stood out to me. First, in verse 2 "The Lord our God made an agreement with us at Mount Sinai. He did not make this Agreement wiht our ancestors, but He made it with us, with all of us who are alive here today."

Another nudge in my spirit to support my dispensationalist bent. The fact that God chose to act and reveal Himself differently, with different covenants throughout history and that the same will be true in the future after the removal of the Church and His dealings with Israel.

The second thing was in verses 24-27, at first they said "Today we have seen that a person can live even if God speaks to Him." and I thought that was really neat, but then they turned around and said "but surely we will die if we come near Him!" and urged Moses to be their intermediary. I thought how sad that was, that they didn't feel they could approach God themselves, that He was too high and mighty to be approached by them, but then it went right on to say that God was happy with their attitude. We SHOULD live in awe and trembling of God's majesty and glory and not tread lightly on this privilege of being granted access to Him.

"Do not make idols of any kind, weather in the shape of birds or animals or fish."vs 8

Nothing is better than God for God made everything. So we should not worship a plant or an animal because they did nothing, they didn't create anything.

"Do not long for your neighbor's wife. Do not long to have anything that belongs to your neighbor. Do not long to have your neighbor's house or land, male or female servant,ox or donkey." vs-21

Do not want what another person has, instead, be content with what you have.
