Romans 11

wow. There's a lot in here.

"do not be arrogant toward the branches...you will say 'Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in'...Do not be conceited, but fear; for if God did not spare the natural branches, He will not spare you, either" v18-21

I have never thought of it like that - that I am allowed in because some of God's chosen people have been removed.

"Behold then the kindness and severity of God; to those who fell, severity, but to you, God's kindness" v22

"Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgements and unfathomable His ways!" v33
-this verse reminded me of a discussion that Chris and I had this weekend. God truly is unfathomable, as much as we try to pin Him down and absolutely discern His ways - it is impossible.

What an amazing chapter...

"Although the Israelites tried to be right with God, they did not succeed, but the ones God chose did become right with him. The others were made stubborn and refused to listen to God." v7

Faith that leads to good works, not good works that lead to salvation. Here we see the pivotal difference between the Jewish and the Christian mindset. I always grieve so for Israel when I read these kind of passages. That the scales would fall from their eyes and they would believe, which they will some day, and then the world will really be changed as they will be able to expound the gospel in a very special way that no one who is not Jewish ever could.
