Deuteronomy 13

"The Lord your God is testing you to find out if you love Him with your whole being." v3

One thing that stood out to me from this chapter was the "eradication" of things that lead you astray. Very extreme. Reading it side by side with the Mark passage from Saturday makes me think that while exposure to things doesn't automatically contaminate us, continued, lazy encounters with worldly philosophies and temptations can wear us down, dull our perception and eventually lead us astray.

vs. 13 - "..you must examine the facts carefully".
LAB -If we hear of friends who have wandered from the Lord, we should check the facts and find the truth before doing anything that could prove harmful. There are times when God wants us to take action - to rebuke a wayward friend, to discipline a child, to reject false teachings - but first we must be sure we have all the facts straight.

I keep running into the contrast of God's holiness versus his intolerance of sin. Thanking Him today for the tremendous sacrifice He made on account of this gap between holy/unholy.

Also thinking about God testing us... thinking there must be a few definitions of the word test... in Matthew Jesus quotes the OT saying "do not put the Lord your God to a test", but in a number of situations, God's people tested God to determine His will, etc. I know when my kids "test" me and how that is different than when my fiath is being tested. Hmmm....

this fits in well with the children's feature on Sunday :)

Great thoughts, all of you. Pondering through a quiet evening.
