"Moreover, he shall not multiply horses for himself...wives...silver and gold" (v16-17)

God didn't want the king to rely on his own military strength, political alliances, or wealth. God wanted the king to be His own.

"When he becomes king, he should write a copy of th teachings of the scroll for himself, he should keep it with him all the time and read from it every day of his life. Then he will learn to respect the Lord His God and he will obey all the teachings and commands."

If we want to know God and know what He desires from us we need to be seeped in His word. Daily. If we want to grow healthy, mature and spiritual strong we need to partake of our Daily Bread.
