Continually reminded to temper or withhold my words lest I come to ruin, folly and sin. The withholding is so difficult.

"Dead flies can make even perfume stink. In the same way, a little foolishness can spoil wisdom." v1

Mmmm... this brought to mind; "But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere. For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing." 2 Cor 2:14,15

If we are to exude that "pleasing aroma of Christ" we need to be steeped in Him. Sometimes we sit back on our haunches and think that Chris'ts aroma will just permeate us without any effort on our part but meanwhile, unbeknown to us those "dead flies" pile up around us like the lazy man in verse 18 and then the stench of the world starts to seep into our lives through the cracks and crannies that we haven't repaired in our lives.

oh man, that first verse is almost hilarious. What a way to start a chapter :)

I found my note on v5 interesting "There is an evil I have seen under the sun, like an error which goes forth from the ruler" - my notes said "It is a great and far-reaching evil when leaders make bad judgments"
I think we've certainly seen that through the Bible as well as through history.
