Some of this sounds a little like Job! I'm not sure where to go with this... mourning better than joy... is it kind of like taking a bad seat at a wedding instead of a good one so that you are humble instead of humiliated? That God will lift us up in due time?

I like vs.21 and 22...

"Bad things happen to good people and good things happen to bad people. I say that this is also useless." v14

So I decided it was more important to enjoy life. The best that people can do here on earth is to eat, drink and enjoy life, because the joys will help them do the hard work God gives them here on earth." v15

I tried to understand all that happens on earth... Nobody can understand what God does here on earth. No matter how hard people try to understand it, they cannot. Even if wise people say they understand, they cannot; no one can really understand it. v16-17

v 14 is important. To not think that bad things that are necessarily punishment or consequences but sometimes they are just the result of the fact that we live in a fallen world.

I love, love, love verse 15. and vv 16-17 are also vital to our world view and our view of our sovereign and mighty God.

Where were you reading, Chris? I don't have verses 21 and 22 for chapter 8.

great comments PChick. And you're right Chris - even if you're on the wrong chapter :) It does sound a bit like Job.
