Deut. 33:
"Blessed are you, O Israel; Who is like you, a people saved by the Lord" Sometimes I wonder, why them? Why Israel? Because it really could have been anybody that God chose. Out of all the people groups. They are so blessed.

I love the conclusion of Job. God never explains to him why all those horrible things happened to him, and Job, it appears, is ok with that. When I finally understood this - that bad things happen, and God is not obligated to explain why, and often may not, and that our job is to trust Him anyway, it helped me get over some nasty stuff. It was very freeing for me.
We always tend to ask why? Why did this happen, what is God "teaching" me, what am I supposed to learn...I don't think that is the point. I think the point is to trust God anyway, whether we understand it or not. Because awful things happen - people die, get abused, lose everything. And there's not always a "reason", or if there is we may never know it. But I think God looks at our response to these things, and that is the point, no?

Luke 12:
this is such a full chapter. There are so many places where I go "oh yeah, this is where that was found".
I love the promise in v. 11-12, that the Holy Spirit "will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say". That's so beautiful to me.
Then there's the section on greed - the difference between storing up treasures for yourself or being rich toward God.
And the section on not worrying - how God will provide our needs. We have clung to this often.
And then stewardship - this part has always struck me "From everyone who has been given much, much will be required; and to whom they entrusted much, of him they will ask all the more".
