"We have given our promise before the Lord, the God of Israel, so we cannot attack them now. This is what we must do. We must let them live. Otherwise, God's anger will be against us for breaking the oath we swore to them. Joshua 9:19-20

How often do I 'excuse myself and my own level of integrity based upon another's actions? Can't help but think of a conversation yesterday about taxes and tax evasion and how one person mentioned that it actually might benefit the economy, because it is releasing more money to be spent in the economy (by keeping that money from the government).

It's easy to justify our means to reach an end, sooooooo easy especially when we feel we are being wronged. But in the end it comes down to MY PERSONAL integrity, honesty, and a life beyond reproach.

"He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much; and he who is unrighteous in a very little thing is unrighteous also in much." Luke 16:10

2 chronicles 16:9 The Lord searches all the earth for people who have given themselves completely to Him. He wants to make them strong.

Ties in so well with our sermon for this week. The pursuit of God. Desire for Him. The giving of myself completely to Him.

The story of Asa is such a miserable story of pride and hard heartedness.

Psalm 10. gut wrenching. so much inner turmoil. I am so thankful to not be wrestling with turmoil like this at this point in my life. I know what it's like to be in that place and even the shadow of it causes my soul to quake. I will choose to count it all joy. I will choose to rejoice in the truth and light and life of God my savior and not ask the hard questions that put me between a rock and a hard place. I will choose to trust, to rest, to hope.

Isaiah 14. It really is amazing when you think of how Babylon once was described, and what Iraq looks like today.

Hosea 14 The following has to be one of the most beautiful passages in all of scripture to me.

The Lord says,
"I will forgive them for leaving me
and will love them freely,
because I am not angry with them anymore.
5 I will be like the dew to Israel,
and they will blossom like a lily.
Like the cedar trees in Lebanon,
their roots will be firm.
6 They will be like spreading branches,
like the beautiful olive trees
and the sweet-smelling cedars in Lebanon.
7 The people of Israel will again live under my protection.
They will grow like the grain,
they will bloom like a vine,
and they will be as famous as the wine of Lebanon.
8 Israel, have nothing to do with idols.
I, the Lord, am the one who answers your prayers and watches over you.
I am like a green pine tree;
your blessings come from me."

9 A wise person will know these things,
and an understanding person will take them to heart.
The Lord's ways are right.
Good people live by following them,
but those who turn against God die because of them.

"Then an angel from heaven appeared to him to strengthen him." Luke 22:43

angels among us. It is a comforting and sobering thought. And yet even with the "being strengthened" by the angel, he was at breaking point. Things would have surely been unbearable without that comfort and spiritual strengthening from on high? I could use a spiritual recharge from heaven right about now. my trials are so small, but they weigh one down nonetheless. This song is running through my head this morning;

I Will Rise,on Eagle's wings
Before my God fall on my kness,and rise
I Will Rise
