Attribute of God: Creator. As the creator of something you have full rights to decide the function and purpose and capability of that creation. We are God's workmanship, created to do good works in Christ Jesus.
2 chr 33. God is JEALOUS. Of me, of my passions. He gives us the gift of passion but wants us to direct it and find fulfillment through them in ways that honor and glorify His name. If my passions are just about making a name or pleasure or addiction, or selfish desire fulfilled, they are sin. If they are about directing my God given passions to things that bring glory to God and bring me joy through SHARING my passions in relationship with Him, then I am on the path He desires for our relationship.
2 Chron 34- Josiah was the MAN. At 20, he was making very godly and probably controversial decisions- tearing down idols, altars and getting rid of even the bones of the former priests. I admire his delegation skills- he recognized that God had him in a position to lead, NOT to do all of the work himself and get stressed out. When the truth of God's laws became known, he led in humility as he confessed the sins of his nation and sought God's direction and forgiveness. Humility is definitely something admirable, and hard to judge your progress- because you can't tell anyone! :)
hmmm... I clearly read the wrong chapter, LOL. Somehow repeated last weeks chapter again, just goes to show how I see scripture through new eyes each time... or maybe I hadn't read it last week?
nope, I read it... new eyes each time it is :)
yep- I checked back to see what attribute you found last week ;) God never ceases to teach us something new!
This has to be my favorite Psalm. It has been a source of great comfort and encouragement to me since I was a child with a heart full of sadness and loneliness. Where to start with what this Psalm has to say about the attributes of God. He is our light, our salvation, our refuge, our stronghold, He is beautiful (the amplified expands that to read "the sweet attractiveness and the delightful loveliness" of the Lord), He is our shelter, our Protector, Adoptive Father.
As for me, this Psalm is also chock full of descriptions of how I should live. I love the picture this paints of the life of the one who is seeking to walk in His ways.
4One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek, inquire for, and [insistently] require: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord [in His presence] all the days of my life, to behold and gaze upon the beauty [the sweet attractiveness and the delightful loveliness] of the Lord and to meditate, consider, and inquire in His temple.
v6 in His tent I will offer sacrifices and shouting of joy; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord.
8You have said, Seek My face [inquire for and require My presence as your vital need]. My heart says to You, Your face (Your presence), Lord, will I seek, inquire for, and require [of necessity and on the authority of Your Word].
What words to live by!
And my heart said seek his face. Your face, Lord, I will seek. Don't hide yourself or turn away in anger.
One of my favorite psalms.
God: watches and judges and burns with holy justice.
Me: let His Holiness consume my dross.
God: Gracious, Merciful, slow to anger, great in kindness, forgiving,
man (Jonah): polar opposite.
What a stark contrast between the heart of God and the heart of man. I see myself in the second and desperately want to become like the first.
