Isaiah 45

First of all I want to say that I will be reading these devotions regularly again. We were in the process of moving before and although no excuse I found it easier ( on the days I did my devotion :-( ) to just flip open the Bible and read than be organized. But now I am craving the fellowship and insight that comes from reading things in an organized way. My comments are not very deep, but I enjoy reading others comments who see things in these verses that I did not see.

My comments on today's passage :

Verse 2 "I will go before thee and make the crooked places straight..."

What a wonderful thing to have the Lord go before us and lead us.

I love verse 3, it is so beautiful to read.
"And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the Lord which call thee by name, am the God of Israel."

I find it very sad how God is saying over and over that He is God and there is no one else. I mean, He created this world and He is having to prove himself to His creation. We must grieve Him so. That is almost like me trying to prove to my children that I am their Mother.

Dear God help me to believe every word you say, trust every move you make and obey every command you give.

As usual, there is so much in here and I don't have time now to explore it all.
I'll share a quote our pastor sent out this week by John Piper. I thought of it when I read verse 4 where God says he called Cyrus for the sake of Jacob and Israel. Cyrus wasn't exactly a blessing to all Israel, but he did begin the restoration of the remnant.

"God will not turn away from doing you good. He will keep on doing good. He doesn't do good to His children sometimes and bad to them other times. He keeps on doing good and He never will stop doing good for ten thousand ages of ages. When things are going bad that does not mean God has stopped doing good. It means He is shifting things around to get them in place for more good, if you will go on loving Him."

- John Piper

Verse 8 is my prayer for today. Let the clouds rain down righteousness!

I couldn't get onto blogger last night to discuss this passage, there was so much there. My favourite part was;

"Sky above, make victory fall like rain; clouds, pour down victory. Let the earth receive it, and let salvation grow with it." verse 8

Amen!

Also;

"All the people who make idols will be put to great shame; they will go off together in disgrace." v 16.

Can you imagine how futile and sill all of the earthly things like sports and shows, and WHATEVER, will all appear in the light of His glory? Like the verse before says; "you are a God that people cannot see", but that doesn't make His glory and awesomeness any less, and we should be in tuned with His presence so that all other things fade in comparison. It sounds so hard, but He is faithful to reveal His glory and draw near when we are willing to the smallest act of laying ourselves on the altar and turning to Him.

"I did not speak in secret or hide my words in some dark place." v 19

We have Him. We have His word. He has revealed Himself to us in a myriad of ways, He is not invisible in the spiritual sense.

"But with the Lord's help, the people of Israel will be found to be good, and they will praise Him."

I love this. With His help, we will be found righteous because of Christ. Praise Him indeed.
