Luke 1

V 12 "God has heard your prayer"... the prayer of a righteous man availeth much. How often do I persevere in prayer? To be perfectly honest, I usually ask once and think, "Oh well. Mustn't have been God's will. God knows best!" And yet surely Zechariah's prayers must have waned after all those years as well... they were both very old according to the text, and then after all that time along comes God and says, "I have heard your prayer, and I'm answering it. Now." Wow. His timing is not our timing.

v 17 (he) will bring those who are not obeying God back to the right way of thnking, to make a people ready for the coming of the Lord."

Wow. We could use a John the Baptist in this world, couldn't we. I want to be ready for His coming. I want to live with that ultimate moment in focus. Not to be so heavenly minded to be of no earthly good, but to be so heavenly minded I'll be careful to do the most earthly good I can and make the most of each moment.

v 45 "you are blessed because you believed that what the Lord said to you would really happen." unlike Zechariah, who doubted. I want to be a Mary. Who believes the promise despite all that she doesn't understand. Who realizes that God is so big and so capable that all she can say is, "Here I am, let it be just as you have said."

v 78-79 "With the loving mercy of our God, a new day from heaven will dawn upon us. It will shine on those who live in darkness, in the shadow of death. It will guide us into the path of peace."

Sigh. Even so, let it be.
