Luke 4

There is something I just love about this chapter. I'm not sure I can put my finger on it but I will try. I feel like there is a strong parallel happening here between the life of Christ and the history of Israel.

He spent 40 days in the desert, the Israelites spent 40 years.

He was hungry and Satan used that to tempt Him just like hunger and grumbling was a temptation that the Israelites faced in the desert. They failed to trust God, Jesus was running on faith and trust.

He was then tempted with idolatry. Bow down to me and I will.... the Israelites feared that God had deserted to them and bowed down to idols of their own making, but Jesus was true to the one and only God without flinching.

He was tempted to put God to the test. The Israelites "leaped before looking" a number of times in their wanderings, trusting that because God was "their" God, He would give them victory whatever leap they made. Not.

Kinda cool parallel.

v. 13 says; "After the devil had tempted Jesus in every way, he left him to wait until a better time." Pumped up on prayer and fasting, Satan wasn't gonna make much headway. What would "better time" look like in our lives? Interesting.

v 14 "Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Holy Spirit." love this. Starving, dying of thirst, totally weak and debilitated in the flesh, but pumped up on the power of the Holy Spirit.
