Isaiah 64

I just listened to a sermon on this the other day, about the filthy rag part. That we are so degenerate that all of our "righteousness" is as lovely to God as (literally in the original text) soaked, stinky menstrual pads. Okay, so I came up with soaked and stinky, but that what's dirty menstrual pads are right? Ew. What pathetic creatures we are, and yet He loves us with such an everlasting and all encompassing love because HE is love, not because we are lovable.

This is what I despise about "positive thinking" messages like Joyce Meyer and who is that other spaz "christian" pastor/author that Oprah exalts, oh yeah, Joel Osteen I think? I have never read anything but the BACK of these people's books, but the message is clear, love yourself! You are lovable! If you don't love yourself noone will love you! Ugh. No. I'm sorry. Love God. It's all about GOD. God loves me because GOD IS love, and not because I AM lovable.
And He calls us to pursue LOVING HIM and LOVING OTHERS not LOVING MYSELF. It's in doing this that we will TAKE OUR EYES OFF OURSELVES and find the true rewards of love, which is not, contrary to public opinion about feeling good and fulfilled. It's about dying to self, and living to Christ. The more we empty ourselves of our stupid humanistic mumbo jumbo and are filled with HIS ideals and purposes, THEN we will find fulfillment and peace.

Stepping off my soap box, ahem.
