"...what is true and real has come and is found in Christ." v17b

Mmmmmm.

..."they do not hold tightly to Christ, the head." v19a

holding tightly, Lord.

"These rules refer to earthly things that are gone as soon as they are used. They are only man-made commands and teachings. They seem to be wise, but they are only part of a man-made religion." v22

wow. I pondered this good and hard today and discussed it with the kids. I can be so focused on externals sometimes... and ACTIONS. Externals and actions matter only insomuch as they reflect the internal motive and spiritual response. It's the HEART that must be examined. It's exercising love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, self control regardless of the externals that matters.

Big for me. Huge.

"Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day - THINGS WHICH ARE A MERE SHADOW OF WHAT IS TO COME; BUT THE SUBSTANCE BELONGS TO CHRIST" (v16-17)

I love that. A mere shadow of what is to come. so not worth arguing over.

It is easy to judge and focus on external PROOFs of our spirituality because it takes developing real relationships with fellow followers to know where their heart is at. Good stuff...
