Jeremiah 12

"The animals and birds in the land have died, because the people are evil." v4

This brought to mind a treatise I read some years back that talked about how when evil persists God punishes first the culprit, then with time that punishment spreads to affect his possessions, and family, surrounding culture and even environment. It seemed very bizarre to me at first but the author pointed out various passages in scripture where the livestock and creatures of the field were "cursed" basically because of the evil acts of the people in their environment. So frustrating to think of nature being punished for man's wickedness but indeed that is what happened in the fall, it's rather remarkable when you start to think about it. We have a huge responsibility and our guilt affects not only ourselves but much, much more.
