"Will you not receive instruction by listening to My words?" v.13

May I have a receiving heart.

"That religion shall continue in the family: "He shall not want a man to stand before me, to serve me." Though they are neither priests nor levites, nor appear to have had any post in the temple service, yet in a constant course of regular devotion, they stand before God, to minister to him. Note, (1.) The greatest blessing that can be entailed upon a family is to have the worship of God kept up in it from generation to generation. (2.) Temperance, self-denial, and mortification to the world, do very much befriend the exercises of piety, and help to transmit the observance of them to posterity. The more dead we are to the delights of sense the better we are disposed for the service of God; but nothing is more fatal to the entail of religion in a family than pride and luxury."

"Did you know that it's not faith plus obedience that equals salvation, but obedient faith. True faith is verirified in your obedience to God. Because Jesus is Lord, He demands obedience.

There is no faith without obedience. Paul said to the Roman Christians, "I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world" (Romans 1:8). And why was their faith spoken of throughout the whorld? Romans 16:19 explains "Your *obedience* has become knows to all." In the beginning it is your faith that is spread abroad, but in the end, it is your obedience."

Recalled a camp song 'obedience is the very best way to show that you believe', made me smile:)

I felt an important call through this chapter to LISTEN, make myself available to hear what the Lord wants of me and was then reminded to ACT, obey what I am called and where I am called. So often what we are called to do goes against our desires or things that simply weirds us out but this chapter is another time where the Lord clearly reminds us that despite it all if we believe and love God we will obey! Obeying really shows where our heart is at!

Denise, what you copied here;

>>The more dead we are to the delights of sense the better we are disposed for the service of God; but nothing is more fatal to the entail of religion in a family than pride and luxury." <<

reminded me of something I had copied down the other day. It took me till now to find it!

"The greatest enemy of hunger for God is not poison but apple pie. It is not the banquet of the wicked that dulls our appetite for heaven, but endless nibbling at the table of the world. It is not the X-rated video, but the prime-time dribble of triviality we drink in every night. For all the ill that Satan can do, when God describes what keeps us from the banquet table of his love, it is a piece of land, a yoke of oxen, and a wife (Luke 14:18-20). ….the most deadly appetites are not for the poison of evil, but for the simple pleasures of earth.”

Very sobering. It ties in with something I have been thinking alot about lately. That God is to be our greatest love, that our desire to worship Him should transcend all we are and do, including being wife and mother, and everything else. We don't give Him a part of ourselves, and then divide ourselves up among the others, we don't reserve a part of ourselves in order to serve and love the others. We love Him and serve Him with our ENTIRE beings and by doing so we will naturally love and serve those in our lives.

This is a major light bulb moment for me.

YES I love it! Totally what I have been thinking about lately and then reiterated at Bible study tonight. Love God and don't worry about the rest - it will come.
