"Today they brought their sin offering and burnt offering before teh Lord, but these terrible things have still happened to me! Do you think the Lord would be any happier if I ate the sin offering today?" v19

Wow. I had never really thought about this verse before, but it was the one that stood out to me tonight. The message I hear here is that if we've screwed up, saying however many hail mary's, or completing whatever spiritual "rite" we think might make things right, just completely misses the mark. I think this verse might be a jewel of an insight into repentance and redemption, new testament principles of circumcision of the heart... the passage that came to mind in contemplating this was from Psalm 51 where David is grieving over his sin with Bathsheba. He writes, "You are not pleased by sacrifices, or I would give them. You don't want burnt offerings. The sacrifice God wants is a broken spirit. God, you will not reject a heart that is broken and sorry for sin." Psalm 51:16-17
