"The Lord your God is kind and merciful. He will not turn away from you if you return to Him." v9

"Although many people... had not purified themselves for the feast, they ate the Passover even though it was against the law. So Hezekiah prayed for them,s aying, Lord, you are good.... Please forgive all those who try to obey You even if they did not make themselves cleas as the rules of the Temple command." The Lord listened to Hezekiah's pryaer and he healed the people." 18-20

Wow. I love this. I love this so much. These two verses together just sum up the goodness of God so well. He has standards, He is Holy, He has high desires for us, but when we fall short, He looks at our heart, He looks at our MOTIVE. Are we *trying* to please Him him here (even if we are strongly missing the mark?). And He extends grace and goodness to fill the cracks and crevices of our feeble failures at devotion.

Those are exactly the verses that stood out to me too. My Bible notes say "The attitude of the heart was to prevail over their outward activity. Hezekiah reminded them that God forgives even the most heinous sins, and He did."

I agree, such an obvious and public forgiveness of short comings was touching to read. It seemed a bit of a feeble start, wrong time, wrong method, so many unwilling to come but the Lord saw their joyful and earnest hearts. I love that they extended the gathering because of how wonderful it was and wonder what those who didn't come (and mocked it) felt about it all when they heard?
