the pride and arrogance of youth.

so sad to see Jeroboam "fearing" and not trusting and thus making really poor choices with the motive of trying to secure his position. what a gift and grace TRUST is. To trust in the Lord with all your heart and rest in Him.

so true. Also stood out to me how important and valuable it is to seek the wisdom and experience of our godly elders. I'm sure the excitement of a fiesty reply was too much for Jeroboam to resist... especially with his peers egging him on. How sad those elders must have been to see him blindly walk into a terrible decision.

the result, though, was what God had promised since Solomon stopped walking with Him.
Very good point, about seeking advice and wisdom from appropriate places.

Such an opposite to Solomon's years of wisdom... there seems to be no understanding anymore... sad but definitely a clear result of Solomon's mistake...
