The numbers of the priests and Levites.

When I read this I wondered about the significance of those who where not found in the records...

I understood where this statement was coming from in relation to the scripture, found it in the commentary section of biblegateway.com

'Those who undervalue their relation to the Lord in times of reproach, persecution, or distress, will have no benefit from it when it becomes honourable or profitable. Those who have no evidence that they are, by the new birth, spiritual priests unto God, through Jesus Christ, have no right to the comforts and privileges of Christians. (Ezr 2:64-70)'

We must continue to glorify and honor God and our relationship with Christ above all else even in negative times... Reminded me to examine myself and search out my salvation with fear and trembling to make sure there are fruits in my life glorifying my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

I just recently realized I hadn't been seeking the glory of Christ first, it scared me to examine my heart and find I had put something seemingly good before him lately... I understand we must LOVE GOD and then ONE ANOTHER, simple right?? Somehow I started focusing on loving others so hard I was neglecting the proper devotion to my Lord first... such an immature move... oh well, two steps back and now to go forward...I feel very raw today as I continue to examine myself and try to get back on the right track with my Lord at the lead!

Thanks for sharing Mac. I too am struggling to reposition my thinking as the needs of others always seem to sneak to the forefront of my mind. You are definitely on the right track as you examine yourself and search for your proper lead. Your comments were a wonderful validation for me this morning.

Other things I found interesting:
"Genealogies were very important credentials to the Hebrew people. If they could not prove they had descended from Abraham, they were not considered true Jews and were excluded from full participation in Jewish community life. In addition, some privileges were restricted to members of certain tribes. For example, only descendants of Levi (Abraham's great-grandson) could serve in the Temple".

So I read this chapter on Wednesday, and kind of drew a blank in the moment. Tried to ponder what it could have for me during the day, saw your comments later and they helped me take it to heart and then haven't been back since. So a bit of catch up today!
