Psalm 72

I haven't really used commentaries before but I am finding they can be very encouraging. I am no theologian but when I read this Psalm it sounded like a beautiful song about Jesus. I understood historically it was about Solomon but it seemed very prophetic and so I again looked up a commentary on biblegateway.com.

David begins with a prayer for Solomon.

"This psalm belongs to Solomon in part, but to Christ more fully and clearly. Solomon was both the king and the king's son, and his pious father desired that the wisdom of God might be in him, that his reign might be a remembrance of the kingdom of the Messiah. It is the prayer of a father for his child; a dying blessing. The best we can ask of God for our children is, that God would give them wisdom and grace to know and to do their duty."

I often pray for my children that they will be used positively for Christ's glory and I pray earnestly for their salvation of course. I love that this Psalm is a prayer by a Dad for his son full of understanding of what it will be like for his boy to rule and full of high hopes for his son!

Loved this Psalm. Totally felt the prophetic repurcussions of it and it gave me goosebumps.

"Let His glory fill the whole world. Amen and Amen."

Thus ends the prayers of David son of Jesse.
