Alright, Missy! Are you trying to trick us? Is this a test? Which chapter of Lamentations is the 54th chapter of Jeremiah in? Where do I go from here?

"Your prophets saw visions but they were... worth nothing. They did not point out your sins to keep you from being captured." V14

This verse first and foremost is talking about spiritual leaders who led by teaching false truths, but there is an underlying second point there. It's not just in not teaching false truths that this could all be made right. There is also a direct statment of them not having drove home THE TRUTH. "They did not point out your sins to keep you from being captured." Wow.

Nobody likes to point out sin. Especially not the wishy washy 'it's all relative' who can really judge a person's heart kind of sins... nobody likes to strip things bare and get to the point, because most people don't like to be srripped bare. Not unless they are really desiring a change of clothing that is.

And yet love...REAL love... will care more about the other persons well being than about our own comfort level. LOve. Real love, will know that when it all comes down, and we are standing at the podium on awards day, we don't want to be remembered as a shirker but a shaker. A difference maker.

This chapter brings a depth of sadness... the consequences of sin unrepented and unacknowledged are so awful here. Dave's commentary really cuts to the chase: "Just feeling sorry about experiencing sin's consequences does not bring forgiveness." and "often innocent bystanders are victims of judgment on a nation". I'm looking forward to chapter 3, that's for sure.

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

The frustration that arises from knowing false prophets contributed to all the suffering is high... It is despicable...

Reading about the children and mothers suffering because of how this nation went astray was hard to read... We know it is reality though... happens even today... doesn't make it easy to take though and I am impressed with how the writer of the book drove that home, how hard it all is to take.
