"You have always chosen to do what the Lord says is wrong." v20

"There was noone like Ahab who had chosen so often to do what the Lord said was wrong, because his wife Jezebel influenced him to do evil." v25

In contrast to what I shared about yesterday's reading, he we see the one who sets himself apart for his own selfish pursuits, egged on by a proud, self centred, egotistical wife.

More and more I realize how as wives we have the power to do good to our husbands, to honor them and build them up to be set apart, not as Ahab was, interested only his own selfish pursuit and ambitions, but set apart as the Levites were, sanctified to God's special purposes.

When I read about Jezebel I always think of Proverbs 31:12, in stark contrast that says; "she brings him good, not evil, all the days of his life."

I was thinking of the same proverb. Reading about Jezebel leaves such a bad taste in my mouth. Ahab is a sadly ridiculous man but she just comes across as so discussing.

v29 " Have you noticed how Ahab has humbled himself before me? Because he has humbled himself, I will not bring this disaster in his day, but I will bring it on his house in the days of his son."

The story of Naboth just makes me ill...and so I am shocked once again at God's merciful ways. I would not have been so genorous but then I cannot see into a man's heart. I find the size of God's mercy unfathomable and the fury (when he has just had enough!) frightening. They are two intersting concepts to balance.
