""you work hard and never give up, you do not put up with false teachings, you have tested... you have patience and have sufered troubles for my name and not given up." v4

But I have this against you, you have left your first love." v5

this chapter really helped clinch something that I have been trying to sort out in my head for some time. Being zelous for TRUTH is not the be all and end all of the GOOD NEWS. Sometimes people can get so zealous for truth (which sounds like the church at Ephesus was) that they can forget that the good news is about amazing love. About the amazing love that the Father has for us, the amazing love that took Jesus to the cross, the amazing love that should be our outpouring of worship to the Lord and the love that we should thus have for our fellow men.

Once again, it brings back that reminder that love and truth are a two sided coin and were not meant to be exercised one without the other.

"I know that your troubles, that you are poor, but really you are rich!" v9 Oh to have that wealth of being at peace with God and having the riches of His joy in any circumstance. That is true wealth.

"I will not put any other load on you. Only continue in your loyalty until I come." v25

What tender and sweet compassion. When the going gets hard Jesus says, don't worry, just breathe, and just hold tight. It's not about more and more achievement and saving the world. Sometimes it's just about continuing loyal.

"I know about your suffering and
your poverty-but you are rich!I know the slander of those opposing
you. They say they are Jews, but they really aren't because thiers is a synagogue of Satan.Don't be
afraid of what you are about to
suffer. The Devil will throw some of you into prison and put you to the test. You willbe persecuted
for 'ten days.'Remain faithful
even when facing death, and I will give you the crown of life."v9-10

Makes me think of how hard it would be to know what lies ahead
of them.

Amen PC. Truth and love.

v29 "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Sirit says to the churches."

Each morning it is my prayer that I would 'hear' His call, encouragement, love, direction. When I take the time, those are the truly good days.

I enjoyed the descriptions of our Lord at the beginning of each chapter. Dave's notes (once again) helped to explain some of the meanings in each letter. So glad we studied this in youth this year too!
