Not sure if it's because I'm sick (took a spell for the worse last night and my head cold has turned into full blown bronchitis or something of the sort) but this chapter leaves me wondering what on earth happened between the first portion and the second. Is it that Hezekiah was faithful but the people were not? ("this happened because they did not obey the Lord their God. They broke his agreement and did not obey all that Moses, the Lord's servant had commanded. They would not listen to the commands or do them."

Hezekiah seems like the ideal leader in the fist part of the chapter, urging right choices, and yet the people are spoiled and don't respond. I love all the beautiful things it says about Hezekiah from verses 3-7

Dave's study Bible says that Hezekiah was mostly concerned with present obedience, not the future. His successful efforts made him proud, and even when confronted with this pride, he was shallowly relieved to find out it would only affect his successors, not himself. While he was a great king, his sweeping reforms had no lasting impact.

PC, I am so sorry to hear that you are so sick. I am glad that you have some help!!!!!! We are all praying for your and the baby’s health!!!

“So the Lord was with him, and Hezekiah was successful in everything he did. He revolted against the king of Assyria and refused to pay him tribute.” (18:7)

“When Hezekiah became king, Assyria controlled Judah. Acting with great courage, Hezekiah rebelled against this mighty empire to whom his father had submitted. He placed his faith in God’s strength rather than his own, and he obeyed God’s commands in spite of the obstacles and dangers that, from a purely human standpoint, looked overwhelming.”

This stood out to me because I am feeling overwhelmed and I need to place my faith in God’s strength. God, I am willing to obey your commands in spite of being overwhelmed! Rob’s dad is in the hospital (fell out of bed and was wedged in a painful position for 3 hours before anyone found him), my mom had an operation yesterday (removed a stone from her salivary gland in her neck), took our dog to the vet yesterday – might have rabies and is quarantined from the kids (bit by a wild animal on her face), and Luke cracked his finger bone today (slammed it in the car door). I am tired, tired, tired.
