Proverbs 22

"Train children how to live right, and when they are old, they will not change." v6

I know this is not a "promise" but a strong principle, yet strong principles are not to be taken lightly. I do trust that the time we are investing, the truths we are imparting, the foundation we are building, the prayers we are covering our children with will not return void. I guess it's a case of we do our best, and pray for God to do the rest.

"Whoever loves pure thoughts and kind words will have the king as a friend." v11

I just love that. How I long to have pure thoughts and kind words.

"It will be good to keep these things in mind so that you will be ready to repeat them."18

Sometimes it seems like in this day and age we are like sieves. So much information pouring THROUGH us, oh to be able to slow down and treasure the truths of the Lord, KEEP them in mind, and not lose sight of them.

"I am teaching you true and reliable words so that you can give true answers to anyone who asks." v21

Am I equipped to give an answer for what I believe? Being equipped is a life time process. The truths of the Lord start off shallow enough for a child to splash in, but are deep enough for elephants to drown in, as we mature, we learn to maneuver through those deeper waters and see deep into their rich realities.

"Don't make friends with... or spend time with.... if you do, you will be like them." v24-25

I think there is a difference between the people you choose to surround yourself with as closest friends and companions and influences, and then those that you choose to "invest" in. I think you can spend time with people in the spirit of investing yourself into them without being influenced by their immaturity, but when you choose a circle of close friends that are more interested in the things of this world than the things of the Lord, it will inevitably rub off on you and either make you feel empty and hungry for more, or dull you to the things that really matter.

I thank God for a close circle of friends who truly value the things of the Lord, and who are not caught up in the trappings and distractions of society. They encourage me to keep my focus and give me the support to keep shining in those other relationships that I invest in.

Love the excuse to not go to work in vs. 13 "The lazy person claims, "There's a lion out there! If I go outside, I might be killed!" I wonder how silly my excuses sometimes sound. My Life App bible says we should take our responsibilities seriously and get to work! That doesn't apply today though, a holiday, right? :)

I smirked at that too :) oh and pyjama days are biblical too, sabbath rests... very important! let your work be work and your play be play, hooray!
