"knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin" v6

This was a great refresher for me. I remember a few years ago when this concept hit me, that I was no longer a slave to the past because it was done away with. We tend to get bogged down in the things we have done, instead of accepting that if we have confessed them then we are forgiven them and no longer bound by them.
It was great to read this again and be reminded.

"You can follow sin, which brings spiritual death, or you can obey God, which makes you right with Him." v16

"When people sin, they earn what sin pays- death. But God gives us a free gift- life forever in Christ Jesus our Lord." v23

Kind of caught my attention how the first verse hinges our "rightness" with God on obedience, and the second clearly states it is a free gift. This is always a paradox to me, but I have come to believe that we can't be receptive and cognizant of this "free gift" without it resulting in obedience. So it is not the obedience that saves us, but the faith that results in obedience.
