"For I am convinced that neither death nor life, nor angles, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord".

Always loved that. Brings peace to my heart.

"Now we do not live following our sinful selves, but we live following the Spirit." v4

"The true children of God are those who let God's Spirit lead them." v14

I have been thinking along these lines quite a bit coming up to the end of 2010. I feel like there are so many ways that we (in our family) fall short of having spirit controlled temperaments. We have had a few serious discussions about it already entering into 2011, how we all need to work on that, and we can only discipline ourselves and throw ourselves on God to become more spirit filled and controlled, we can't base our reactions on the person next to us (but he... but she...). I pray that we will see great progress in this area in the year to come.

"We know that everything God made has been waiting until now in pain, like a woman ready to give birth. Not only the world, but we also have been waiting with pain inside us."

Again, the anticipation. Sometimes the cares and interests of the world can lull us out of this spirit of groaning and longing for what we were really made for, but when we are in tune with God's spirit we realize how hungry we are for more of Him and how none of this can satisfy. "My heart and flesh cry out, for you the Living God, your Spirit's water to my soul."

Reminds me of a favorite Alli Rogers song that says;

It’s not a steady rain,
it’s more a longing or a pain
It’s in the aching that he knows there’s something more.

I love that. I anticipate that.
