"I ask you to look out for those who cause people bo be against each other and who upset other people's faith. They are against the true teaching you learned, so stay away from them. Such people are not serving our Lord Jesus Christ but are only doing what pleases themselves. They use fancy talk and fine words to fool the minds of those who do not know about evil." v17-18

This portion of scripture reminds me so much of the my early homeschooling days when I would frequent the discussion boards that are facilitated by my curriculum. There was one forum there called the Lifelong Learners forum where there would constantly be these intense "discussions" (they were really debates) questioning everything from creationism to the Bible as mere literature (the flood and Jonah not being literal, etc).

I remember the first time I was exposed to the extreme intellect of some of these scholars (believe it or not many of the people doing the debating AGAINST the literalness of scripture were the bible college and seminary PROFESSORS. It rocked my world and freaked me out. The worst part is that a couple of these people have since become ATHEISTS. First they had such smooth arguments for how the bible can be "true" and evolution still be true, and the stories still be just stories, but in the end, they ended up leading lots of people astray with their "intellectual arguments" and then themselves not believing in anything in the end.

So disturbing.
