Love the mining imagery here, and the picture of the magnitude of God's wisdom too. Very interesting the words Evan's version uses: "He said to human beings, 'Have respect for me. That will prove you are wise. Avoid evil. That will show you have understanding'".

vs. 28 - The fear of the Lord is true wisdom. Just as Evan's version said - we need to respect and reverence God but we also need to be in awe of his majesty and power.

"Miners bring lights and search deep into the mines for ore in thick darkness." v3

I love this as a picture of the believer, searching deep into the mine of scripture for understanding and wisdom imparted by God. Sometimes it seems like we are working in a thick darkness, groping to find our way, understand, make it applicable... but the Holy Spirit is "our light" that will shine understanding on God's amazing word if we are just willing to dig.

"Sapphires are found in rocks and gold dust is also found there... Miners hit the rocks of flint and dig away at the bottom of the mountains. They cut tunnels through the rock and see all the treasures there. They search for places where rivers begin and bring things hidden out into the light." v6-11

I love that so much. As we dangle ourselves from those ropes and chip away at God's word, jewels come to light and WE have had a part in it. I see that happening all the time here as we share what God is revealing to us in His word. It is a beautiful endeavor.

"And where can wisdom be found? Where does understanding live? No one knows how much it's worth. It can't be found anywhere in the world. vs 12-13

Wisdom is worth more than crystals and rubies. You cant see it but it is a very special thing. Nothing in the world can compare to it.

"It cannot be bought for gold or silver. Its value is greater than all the gold of Ophir, greater than precious onyx stone or sapphires.Wisdom is far more valuable than gold and crystal. It cannot be purchased with jewels mounted in fine gold."v 15-17

If wisdom is greater than gold and riches, then some people who do not have much money, but are very wise and fear the LORD,they would be richer than people who have a lot of money and do not fear the LORD.

my notes reflect Chris's comment:
"(v28) Job has made the connection that the others would not. While the specific features of God's wisdom may not be revealed to us, the alpha and omega of wisdom is to revere God and avoid sin, leaving the unanswered questions to Him in trusting submission. All we can do is trust and obey and that is enough wisdom. One may never know the reasons for life's suffering"
